As a tribute to the founder Dr. Sam Higginbottom, who through his sincere services, hard work and dedication has contributed greatly towards enhancing the agriculture production in our Country, a proposal was submitted to Ministry of Human Resource Development, Govt. of India, New Delhi to re-christened Allahabad Agricultural Institute-Deemed University as “Sam Higginbottom Institute of Agriculture, Technology and Sciences”. Sam Higginbottom Institute of Agriculture, Technology & Sciences (SHIATS), is striving to acquire a place in the arena of International Science and Technology while holding a pioneering status in India. The University offers thirty-nine (39) Undergraduate Programmes, hundred and one (101) Postgraduate programmes, eighteen (18) Diploma programmes and Doctoral program in various disciplines. Being a Deemed-to-be University, SHIATS does not require any approval from All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) for technical and Management courses and is empowered to award degrees as specified and notified under section 22 of University Grant Commission (UGC) Act 1956 (Notification No F.2-1/2006 U.3(A) dated 7th April 2006) issued by Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Department of Secondary & Higher Education, Govt. of India, New Delhi.

The University has currently signed MoUs with more than 14 countries for academics and research. SHIATS has been in collaboration with a Thailand based Asian Institute of Technology for academics and collaboration with University of Missouri to explore the potential of green nanotechnology on agricultural economy

Library
The library has more than 85,000 volumes, which include text books, reference books and research material. It also subscribes regularly to a large number of technical journals and magazines, both Indian and Foreign.
Sam Higginbottom University of Agriculture, Technology and Sciences (SHUATS), formerly Allahabad Agricultural Institute is an autonomous state government university located in Allahabad, India. Established in 1910 by Dr. Sam Higginbottom, it became the first institute in India to offer a degree in Agricultural Engineering in 1942. In December 2016, it was elevated from the status of Deemed University to full-fledged State Government University, thus renaming it to SHUATS.
Admission to various undergraduate and postgraduate programmes shall be granted through ENTRANCE TEST, strictly on the basis of merit. However, there are few programmes for which the admission will take place through DIRECT INTERVIEW
