About Berhampur University

The Berhampur University came into existence on 2nd January 1967 being inaugurated by Dr. A.N. Khosla, the then Governor of Orissa and the first Chancellor of the University. The University was later shifted to the present site known as Bhanja Bihar, named after the celebrated poet of Orissa Kabisamrat Upendra Bhanja. Spreading over an area of about two hundred fifty acres the university is twelve kilometres and 5 kilometers away from the Berhampur City and Sea-beach of Gopalpur respectively. There are twenty post-graduate departments in the university offering specialized subjects and M. Phil programmes. Some of the faculties like Mass Communication, Tourism and Indian Monuments, Electronic Science, Computer Science, Marine Science, Military Science make the University stand apart from some other universities of the country. The university has achieved great distinction in the academic world due to the qualitative and quantitative production of M. Phil., Ph.D., D. Litt and D. Sc degrees. So far many projects, major and minor funded by the U.G.C., I.C.S.S.R., C.S.I.R. and D.S.T. etc. have been completed. About two hundred fifty research oriented and text books have been published by the teachers.

Berhampur University offers various undergraduate, postgraduate and PG Diploma courses in multiple disciplines such as Economics, History, Education, Mathematics, Political Science etc. The university offers 28 full-time courses in the field of UG, PG and PG Diploma programmes. For admission to the undergraduate programmes offered under distance learning mode, students should have passed 10+2 examinations. While for getting admission to the postgraduate courses, students should have completed their undergraduate degree in the relative discipline.

The admission to the university is mostly on the basis of merit. Although, certain programmes require the candidates to clear the entrance examination. Candidates can apply for the desired course by downloading the registration/admission form and submitting it to the concerned Schools. The entire Berhampur University admission procedure occurs in the month of June.

Steps to apply for spot admission:

For spot admission, students need to visit the Harihar Mardaraj Distance Education Centre (HM-DEC) in person on the specified date

• Candidates should submit the duly filled-in application form to the university office upon completion
• Students also need to submit the necessary documents at the time of admission for verification
• Students need to submit the application form along with the requisite fees
• Should submit the application fees through various payment modes of SBI like Debit Card/ Credit Card/ Net Banking.

Steps to apply for Postal admission:

Along with the other courses, candidates who wish to get admission in the Graduation course must follow the below-given steps:

• Students need to download the application form available at the university website i.e. “www.buodisha.edu.in”
• Students applying for the course need to pay application fees at the time of admission.
• Candidates should send the downloaded application form along with the fees and original document copies by Registered Post/ Speed Post at the following address for verification
