The Indira Gandhi National Tribal University, Amarkantak has been established by an Act of the Parliament of India. It came into existence by the Indira Gandhi National Tribal University Act, 2007 and came into action on July 2008. The jurisdiction of the University extends to the whole country and it is fully funded by the Central Government through the University Grant Commission. The university caters to the tribals’ long cherished dream of higher education.

The Indira Gandhi National Tribal University (IGNTU) offers a variety of Undergraduate, Postgraduate and Doctoral courses to meet the choices and needs of the students at University Headquarters’ Main Campus and Regional Campus, Manipur.
The Admission in the UG Courses shall be given on the basis of merit in qualifying Examination. There would be No Entrance Test for Undergraduate Admission. For the admission in PG Courses, the University may conduct Entrance Tests. Entrance Test for PG Programmes shall only be conducted when Number of applications will be one and half times of the sanctioned seats. In the case of Entrance Test admissions in PG Courses shall be given on the basis of merit in the Entrance Test, subject to verification of eligibility and other conditions in the particular course for which the candidate has applied. However, if the number of applications received for any of the PG courses is less than one and half times of the sanctioned seats, No Entrance Test will be conducted in that particular course and the admissions shall be made on the basis of merit in the qualifying examination. In case of two or more candidates securing equal marks in the qualifying examination/Entrance Test then the admission will be successively given in order of preference as follows:
